Three Good Reasons to Use a Professional Tiler   no comments

Posted at 9:09 pm in Remodeling

There are many good reasons why you should hire a professional to install the tiles in your bathroom, or really any other areas of your home where you want to have floor tiles. It would fill volumes on the subject, but here are just three of the biggest and best reasons.

1. The biggest problems that home owner’s face when they are remodeling is time. It not only takes time to set up the project, but you don’t have a lot of time to spend with DIY projects, there is work, busy schedules, and all too often projects get started and then you discover that the work is way above your head, and the job stalls. Soon it’s weeks or in some cases months before it gets finished, when a professional could have it done in a matter of days.

2. The professional tilers have all the equipment as well as the manpower to come in and do the job right the first time. Most people just don’t have the right tools, grouting and finishing trowels, as well as the diamond bit saws laying around the house to do tiling. Sure you could rent the equipment, but unless you know what you’re doing, chances are very likely that you are going to break more of the tiles, costing you more money, as well as time and frustration. A professional tiler comes in, assesses the situation, takes precise measurements, and can even make adjustments on the fly.

3. A professional tiler is much less expensive than you think. Considering the time it takes to do a bathroom project on your own, and that as mentioned before you are going to probably get in way over your head and have to call someone anyway, it is just better to do it right the first time, and have someone who knows exactly what they are doing. This will save you money, time and effort, as well as keep your spouse from getting angry when she doesn’t have a bathtub to soak in.

This doesn’t mean you should just use any old person or company to come into your home. You should only use licensed professionals who have many years doing tiling in bathrooms, or wherever else you want tiles. You should get at least three different quotes to consider. Make sure that you get references, check with your local builder’s association to make sure they are a good company, and get everything in writing.

New Outdoor Furniture Will Add the Perfect Touch to Your Springtime Backyard Remodel   no comments

Posted at 11:40 pm in Patios & Decks

Springtime is the period of the year when we return to outdoor relaxation and a fresh set of outdoor furniture for your yard or patio can offer the perfect excuse to get away in the inviting warm weather. As one of the better and most used home investments, outdoor furniture must be purchased near the beginning in the season to enjoy it as much as possible across the summer. To create a truly restful environment for your yard, new outdoor furniture is certainly the preferred way. When considering buying modern patio furniture for your yard, there are a few factors or considerations to think about in advance.

Generally, cost or price is the initial consideration or factor when purchasing patio furniture or any other piece of furniture for the house. Don’t overlook furniture workmanship when conducting your preparation for new furniture, as there is more than just price. As with any significant purchase, you will want to ensure that the furniture is of high caliber and also within the prescribed budget you have set for this investment. If you purchase lower workmanship furniture, soon the cash saved in your initial purchase won’t be worth the new investment needed to exchange the furniture. Patio furniture manufacturers such as Agio Furniture offers high craftsmanship pieces with both high caliber and price effective.

If you’re looking for discounts on backyard furniture, the most outstanding option is to look at the Internet to determine if there is any clearance or discount outdoor furniture available. Often there are terrific deals on the net with clearance and discount outdoor furniture which are still quality and modern fashion. You might even be able to stumble on quality manufacturers of patio furniture such as Agio at terrific prices. You never know what type of patio furniture you’ll encounter when you explore for clearances and promotional sales.

Be sure to also measure how much the outdoor furniture fits in with your house and private style and tastes, as the closer the furniture compliments your style the greater you will be fond of it. Outdoor living is all about taking the comforts of the indoors and moving them in a natural outdoor environment, so your furniture should be as comfy, convenient and catching to the eye as the objects you’d pick for the living room and dining room inside your household.

Of most importance, ensure the furniture you select for your back yard is of the best quality while also complementing your private style. Taking price, selection, and fashion into consideration, you could be enjoying your new terrace just in time for springtime.

Roller Garage Doors – Space Utilization and Convenience at Your Fingertips   no comments

Posted at 8:11 pm in Doors

Are you trying to decide on the best type of door to install in your garage? A roller garage door is a very viable option. As the name implies, this type rolls up above the door opening when the garage is opened, and unrolls back down to close the doorway. It is like a retractable metal curtain formed from horizontal hinged sections. When operated, these sections will bend or wrap around a cylinder at the top of the garage entrance. It is very easy to control and features a lot of advantages.

· Space saver

Unlike other types of garage doors, the roller variety allows you to utilize more space in front and behind the threshold. Since the curtain gets neatly stashed away around the tube above the opening, it leaves you with more free space at the side of the walls for storage of other items. Since it does not jut out nor project inwards, it is very convenient to operate even when there are objects or a vehicle parked closely in front or inside the garage.

· Smooth operation

It is very easy and efficient to use a roller type door. For manual opening, a very minimal amount of physical effort is required to hoist it up and down. Additionally, among all the other forms of garage doors, the roller kind is the most ideal for electric or remote control operation. You can either have your existing one converted into the motorized variety, or better yet purchase the remote operation-ready type. This feature will allow you to enter or leave your garage with just an easy flick of the remote.

· Safety and security

The roller door has many safety features. Instead of an actual lock, it is secured by a mechanism on the metal curtain itself, which makes it virtually impossible to pick. You can also have the option of installing high-tech keys or even biometric detectors for rigid protection against an unauthorized break-in. And because of the remote operation feature, you can open and enter the garage without the need of getting out of your car, which gives you more security especially at night.

· Higher life expectancy

An automatic system lends an impact-free movement to the metal curtain, which makes it last longer than other types of garage doors. Its hinged design also means that it is minimally affected by the wear and tear caused by strong gusts of wind during stormy weather. And because it is metal, you can be assured that it’s made of sturdier stuff than ordinary doors.

· Aesthetics

Roller doors look very handsome because of the horizontal paneling, which makes it very easy to simulate a wooden garage door. It can be customized to look like natural timber or you can have it painted with a color of your choice, to blend beautifully with your house’s facade.

Just to set your expectations, roller doors can be a bit pricier than the other types of garage doors in the market. However, if you opt for this variety, you will definitely get the value for your money because of its many security, convenience, and space-saving features.

Decorating with Monochromatic Color Scheme   no comments

Posted at 7:53 pm in Interior Decorating,Painting

If you’re looking for a color scheme for a room in your home, consider using a monochromatic color scheme. This type of color scheme uses one color for almost all the surfaces in the room. To add some sort of contrast to the room, you use different shades of the color you’ve decided upon, from light to dark. If you are considering using a monochromatic color scheme in your home, here are some tips for creating the best possible look.

Add White or a Neutral Color to the Room
When you pair the color with white or another neutral, you will avoid ending up with a room that looks like it’s too matched or boring. Of course, you don’t want the neutral color to be the main focus in the room but rather an accent. For instance, a blue monochromatic scheme might include a blue and white area rug where the wal ls and furniture are all blue. What might also work is to paint the trim in the room white.

Choose the Color of the Room Wisely
When you decorate a room with a monochromatic color scheme, it’s important that you really put some thought into the color choice. After all, if you go with a color you’re not crazy about, you will most likely not end up very happy with the finished look of the room. So put some time into picking a color that you like to look at. For those of you who are new to the monochromatic look, you may want to avoid bold color choices such as red and orange. Remember, once a monochromatic look has been achieved in a room, it’s going to be a lot harder to change the room since everything you have will be in some sort of shade of that color. Be sure that you think carefully about your color choice and try not to rush into a hasty decision you may later regret.

Mix Up the Shades of the Color
Once you’ve chosen your color, the best way to find different shades of that color is to visit a paint store and gather up some color swatches. Then you’ll be able to clearly see the different shade of the color that you have to work with. You want to be sure that the walls are not painted the exact same shade as the furniture or that your floor isn’t the same exact shade as the walls. Mixing up the shades of color always adds character and interest to a room, giving it a better overall look. You can also use accessories like pillows, curtains, baskets, and candles that are completely different shades from the rest of the room.

It isn’t always easy to pull off a monochromatic color scheme in a room. You really have to be willing to put some planning into the decor, making sure that everything flows well and you have the perfect balance of color.

Having Lawn Mower Problems? You Can Fix These   no comments

Posted at 7:45 pm in Yard Equipment

A bit of attention to your lawn mower a few times a year and you should have few major lawn mower problems.

Most gas powered mowers should give you a good 10 years before needing replacing. We bought our Toro second hand and have been using it for the past 6 years with only minor issues.

Since many mowers are being brought out of a long hibernation, maybe this information will help you from pulling a shoulder muscle on that pull cord.

The first thing that should be done, whether or not you are experiencing a problem, is to drain the fuel if you haven’t already and replace it with fresh fuel. Old gas or an old gas/oil mixture can get thick or get contaminated with a bit of water and that can lead to problems. Best to just start over.

Just like a car, the oil should be changed every 3 months of so. Changing the oil on your mower though, is much easier than on your car. You will probably have to tip it on its side and drain it through the plug you’ll find on the bottom.

If you’re having trouble starting the mower, replace the spark plug and set the gap. Your manual should tell you what the gap needs to be. This is pretty simple to do as well.

After replacing the plug and gas and oil just a few weeks ago, my mower would start but would never fully “catch”. That turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. In the 6 years since I bought it, I have never changed it. I wouldn’t recommend waiting quite that long though.

Remove and sharpen your blade at least a couple times per mowing season. It isn’t difficult to do. You’ll need a metal file or a corner hardware store to do it for you and you will be rewarded with a clean and evenly cut lawn. A dull blade will tear the top of the grass leaf and in a large lawn area, that won’t look great.

Lastly, use a stiff brush to get the clippings out of the undercarriage and off of the intake. This part helps keeps your garage floor cleaner too. I don’t recommend using a hose to do this. Rust is something that will really shorten the life of your lawn mower.

If after all this, you are still having lawn mower problems, most towns have at least one good small engine repair shop that can have you fixed up in a jiffy. Happy mowing!
