How to Choose the Right Wheelie Bins no comments
If you’ve decide that a wheelie bin will be better than a traditional steel or plastic bin, then you’ll want to make sure that you get the right one.
Here’s what you need to consider.
1. You’ll need to know what you’ll use your wheelie bins for. Household waste, commercial waste, recycling, and old products or components might require different sorts of wheeled bins.
2. The capacity of your bin is important. You won’t want a bin that’s too small as it will constantly need emptying, but a bin that’s too large can be hard to fill and empty.
3. It’s important that the bin is easy to fill. Having a huge heavy lid won’t make it easy to get rubbish and waste products in to the bins. You might want to be able to put a lock on the bin too, especially if you’re disposing of food, valuable, or dangerous products.
4. You’ll need to be able to empty your bin easily. Perhaps is will collected by your council waste collection service, or many you’ll need to be able to dispose of it yourself.
5. Remember that you bin needs to be left outside in all weathers, and so size is important. You’ll need to find some where somewhere sheltered so that it won’t blow over in the wind, and yet easy to reach as you won’t want to have tor walk far to put your rubbish in the bin.
6. It’s essential that your wheelie bin is durable, and looks like it will last a long time. These bins will have a hard life, and so you’ll want a bin that’s up to the job.
7. You might want to have different coloured wheelie bins instead of the traditional black ones. Why not brighten up your day with coloured some coloured bins?
8. Perhaps you’ll be using different bins for different sorts of waste, or for different sorts recycling. You could use coloured bins so that it’s easy to see what waste goes where.
9. You could also have your company logo printed on your wheelie bins for additional advertising, and so that your bins don’t go missing.
10. It’s important that you get the right bins, and that you don’t buy on cost alone. You’ll need to make sure you get value for money. The cheapest wheelie bins might not really be big enough, or durable, and hard to empty.
Now you know what to look for, you’ll be able to choose the right wheelie bins.

Keep Your Home Quiet With Sound Insulation Materials no comments
There are many sources of noise that come from both within the home and outside the home. Indoors it could be a washing machine, hoover or loud music causing those around you a headache, or traffic noise and passers by could be making your home life a nightmare. There is a set of solutions to such problems other than having to become practically mute in your home or telling off others for disturbing you.
There are a range of sound insulation materials that can be purchase and applied in your home so that noise is reduced or absorbed. Acoustic doors can be fitted to replace your existing door which may be a poor insulator of noise as many old doors start to crack and let gaps appear through which noise will flood in. A change of doors have been proven to lessen the amount of decibels that can get through, therefore making for a quieter environment both inside and outside the home.
Soundproofing is different from sound absorption as it is designed to prevent the amount of noise from getting into an environment, rather than trapping the noise and keeping it within one place. It can ensure that vibrations and echoes are kept out at all times. The best thing about soundproofing is that it is cheap to purchase relevant products and very easy to apply which is something to be grateful for. There will be certain areas within your home that are susceptible to letting noise in and you need to carefully identify such locations in order to make the sound proof process successful.
Excess noise can cause anger, frustration and even depression and no one wants to experience such emotions at any time in their life. Enjoy yourself and everything around you by laying down such materials correctly and efficiently.

Energy Efficient House Design – Using Thermal Performance Assessment Techniques no comments
Energy efficient house designs can be generated using thermal performance assessment techniques. Building thermal performance is the assessment or rating of a building’s ability to create internal conditions that are comfortable for the occupants, with a minimum of mechanical input. Mechanical input refers to the consumption of energy by heating or cooling appliances. Energy efficiency refers to the effectiveness of a building’s ability to influence, control and facilitate user control over the movement of heat energy within a building and between the building and its surroundings.
The most important attribute of a building in relation to its energy efficiency is the building envelope, which refers to the exterior fabric of the building. The movement of heat energy within a building has a less important affect. Residential thermal performance refers to the energy efficiency of a residential building (generally single dwelling houses and multi-dwelling apartments).
A number of factors affect the energy efficiency of house designs, including:
* climate and wind
* location, landform, vegetation and environment
* building orientation, form and design
* materials used and how they are employed
* occupancy and occupant behaviour
An energy efficient house stays naturally cool in summer and warm in winter. The house will be even more comfortable if the occupants perform simple operations and management tasks. This allows the occupants to maintain comfortable conditions in their home, without the excessive use of heaters and air conditioners. Accordingly, this reduces the mechanical input required and reduces the energy consumption of the building. Reducing energy consumption means less burning of fossil fuels, less carbon emissions and less general pollution generated by the building. That is, high residential thermal performance gives the occupants the opportunity to have a healthier and more comfortable home that costs less to heat and cool and also reduces the impact of energy consumption on our environment.
The Star rating system in Australia rates the thermal performance of a building on a scale of 1 to 10. A 10 Star house would be one in which no energy is required to be consumed in order to maintain comfortable conditions for the occupants. Theoretically a 10 Star house is possible, however in practice a 9 Star house is typically the best rating that can be achieved.
Such a high thermal performance house is commonly referred to as an energy efficient house. If the owners or designers of the home also include other environmentally aware features such as waste water treatment, environmentally friendly and low life cycle cost building materials, rain water gathering and treatment, solar and/or wind generation devices, etc, one might refer to it as a sustainable house.

Ideas for Playrooms no comments
A child should be able to have fun and enjoy having their own space in a playroom. Most parents truly do enjoy being able to get their children’s toys out of sight and into one room, though this doesn’t mean that the play room shouldn’t have functional decorating. Some great ideas for decorating a playroom that is function and fun for the child can be found in this article.
Have Plenty of Storage Options
You are going to need plenty of storage options if you want the playroom to stay as neat as possible. This way all the items in the room will have a proper place. If you don’t want a very disorganized mess in the room, storage and organization will be essential to the room.
The room’s storage can come from furniture pieces, plastic bins and shelving units on the wall. You child’s small toys, art supplies and puzzles should all have their own individual baskets to store them in.
Make the Playroom Room Durable
Unless you want your favorite piece of furniture to get broken, it should stay out of the child’s playroom. When it comes to furniture and other decorating items, children tend to be rough on them, even girls. The room’s décor items should be kept simple if you want to keep it durable.
Some things like plastic bins and baskets can double up as storage and decoration for the room. Not only should the rugs be easy to clean, but they should also be darker to be able to better hide stains.
Keep Play Areas Safe for Your Kids
To prevent furniture like bookshelves, dressers or desks from falling on a climbing child, make sure to bolt these pieces onto the wall. Try to keep the size of furniture in scale with your child, as furniture that is too tall can prove dangerous for younger children. Small toys and art supplies should be kept high up, where small children can’t get to them.
If you have a baby or toddler you should take extra precautions by making sure that you put covers on all the outlets and by not having any blind cords hanging from the windows.
Let Your Child Have a Say in the Playroom
Your child will enjoy their playroom much more if you allow them to have a say in their playroom’s aesthetics. Take into consideration what they want for the color of the wall or carpet. Your child might also want to go with a themed playroom, and this can be done easily with stencils and stick-ons that can be added to the walls.
If the playroom is something that your child doesn’t like because it isn’t what they wanted or they simply don’t like the way it looks, they will be less likely to play in it and keep it clean. You should allow your child to have a say in their room’s décor and items to a certain degree.
The playroom should be the best place in the home for a child. It gives them the ability to have fun, be creative and be independent in their own space. If you follow these decorating ideas, your playroom will be simple and inexpensive.

Decorating Made Simple With Facbric and Color no comments
There are just some rooms that seem completely devoid of any character or personality whatsoever. Sometimes there’s just nothing there to draw your interest, or perhaps they simply are dull or boring in appearance. Does it just so happen that this describes your home? By using color and texture, you can really infuse warmth and personality into a room that was previously nothing special. What’s great about this type of transformation is that it can easily be accomplished for very little money.
Although there’s nothing wrong with a room that’s entirely beige and cream, often these kinds of rooms can use a little drama. By using various textures and colors, you can create rooms that are either vibrant and energetic or tranquil and relaxing. If you’re looking for ways to transform a room, here are some tips to get you started.
When Tranquility Is What You’re After
With neutral colors, a room feels relaxed and tranquil. Colors of Earth such as sky blue, tans, and terra cotta create an aura of calm and peace. Go for cream-colored carpets and walls, accented with the hues of the sunset. Keep the majority of the furniture light in color and then add splashes of terra cotta and sky blue in throw pillows, accent rugs, and the artwork on the walls. Pillows, rugs, and wall hangings can add either a nubby or sleek texture to the décor.
Warm Things Up and Welcome Visitors
With warm colors, you can create a vibrant atmosphere that welcomes anyone to your home. Oranges, reds, browns, rust, navy blue, and all the colors of fall add a spicy appeal to your décor. Furnishings should use bold patterns that include fall colors, creating a warm, comfortable décor. Throw colors should be in a solid color. This way, they’re not competing with the patterns of the furniture. Hang a large print on a single wall painted deep orange for the perfect focal point.
Jazz It Up with Energy!
Jazz up any small room or space that simply looks blah. With bright, vibrant colors, you can make even the plainest of rooms take on a whole new life. If you want a botanical feel, go with bright green, orange, blues, and peaches. Be brave and pick a bright, bold color to paint on one or two of the walls.
Add some throw pillows into the mix with the wildest, boldest patterns you can find. Liven up the floors with a geometric or abstract patterned throw rug or add interest to the walls with some botanical prints or abstract art. Now all you have to add are a few exotic looking plants. When everything comes together, you won’t believe your eyes! For rooms that are full of energy, bright colors and bold prints can really make a difference.
The reason most people can name their favorite color is that color affects everyone. Not only do colors make you feel calm, relaxed, energetic, sexy, or playful, it does the same for your rooms. There’s no need to settle for a home without personality, for a look that’s boring and lackluster. With some color and texture, you can really liven things up. Even on a shoestring budget, it’s possible to add character and personality that will totally transform the look of your home.

Sump Pump Review – Is Your Basement Wet? no comments
John wakes up in the morning. Stumbles out of bed. Looking forward to that morning cup of coffee. He stumbles across the floor towards the steps to the kitchen. He hears a squish, squish sound as he walks but it doesn’t really register. Up the steps and in the kitchen he finds a pot of coffee waiting for him. Ah, the smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning. As he takes his first few sips he realizes his feet are wet.
That’s strange he thinks. “Did I go outside without my shoes to get the paper?” he wonders. Then he remembers the squish, squish sound. He runs back down to his newly finished basement only to find that the carpet is soaked. His furniture is wet and that newly hung drywall that he just painted last week is ruined. Over to his sump pump he runs only to find that the sump pit is flooded and the pump isn’t pumping.
If only John would have done a little more research before he bought that pump at the hardware store down the street. He would have learned that cheaper isn’t better with a sump pump. He also would have learned that some pumps with plastic housings are prone to cracking. Once the housing cracks water can get inside and burn up the motor. If only, could have saved John thousands of dollars.
Here are a few things John should have considered when he bought his sump pump:
1. Casing Material: for a little more he could have purchased a higher quality pump with a cast iron case. These pumps do not crack and rarely will anything go wrong other than the switch (after many years of service). The switches are also easily replaced.
2. Capacity: how much water will his pump need to evacuate from the sump pit? Did you know that just one inch of rain falling on a 1,500 square foot roof can produce 1,000 gallons of water? If you have a leaky basemen how much of that is going to find it’s way inside?
3. Consider a backup pump: backup pumps are a great idea. If your main pump gives out the backup pump takes over. This can literally save you thousands of dollars in repairs. For extra protection get a backup pump that runs from a battery. If the storm knocks out your power you’re still covered.
A sump pump is easy to forget about. After all we drop it in a pit in our basement and submerge it under water. We rarely ever think about it until the floor is squishing under our feet or our belongings are floating. Take a few minutes to test your sump pump each year to ensure it is working properly. If it isn’t functioning you might want to check out this sump pump review to learn more about the best sump pumps on the market.

What is a Camping Generator? no comments
Camping generators emits electricity making use of their engine and alternator. The engine emits the generator’s power and creates various AC outputs depending on the RPM. The alternators usually called as the heart of camping power generators -convert energy from the engine to electricity.
Kinds of Camping Generators include the following:
Standard Camping Generators
The kind of camping generator weighs slightly more than 120lbs, making them solid enough to be carried on camping sites. They’re created of copper coils that generate enough electric energy to power stoves and some other camping equipment. They emit raw electric energy by maintaining a steady 3600 RPM. Because of their RPM and size, they’re noisy and consume lots of fuel. They aren’t intended to power computers and some other advanced gadgets.
Inverter Camping Generators
This kind of camping generator is more solid than standard camping power generators.
They might be as lightweight as 30lbs and are costlier than their standing matching parts. They generate cleaner AC energy through their sole inverter that transfers AC to DC power. Then, the DC power is converted back to AC power, which is great for operating gadgets. They could operate at various RPM’s and are more silent than standard generators. They’re great for electronic devices that need a stable flow of voltage and current like computers and televisions.
Size: Opt for camping power generators that are handy enough to be carried on camping sites. Standard camping generators are cheap but could be difficult to be brought anywhere. Instead, consider inverter generators because they’re more portable and compact.
Use: Opt for camping power generators that generate sufficient amount of energy for your electronic appliances. If you’re just going to power your small burners and stoves, standard camping power generators will do. If you want to bring TV and some other sensitive home appliances, consider inverter power generators that generate cleaner energy.
The ideal place to look for info on amps, volts, and horse-power is on the data tag on the power generator that’s supplied by the manufacturer of the electric motor.
Generators that are more than 2000W must be sufficient to supply power to your micro-wave and some other cooking devices.
Another very significant consideration when purchasing a power generator is the labor or item warranty. Ensure that the manufacturer of the generator gives a warranty with 1 to 2 years on the engine and no less than 2 years on the frame and electrical components.
Purchasing or choosing a camping generator, doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult. Get all of the tips and tricks at, http://www.suitcase-generator.com.
The Myths About AGA Ovens – Part One no comments
Many people aspire to owing an AGA oven and with the range of models now available it’s possible to have an iconic range cooker from one of the world’s most famous manufacturers. Whether you’re looking for a classic heat storage cooker or a duel-fuel option, there’s an ideal oven for you. For those opting for the simplicity of a traditional AGA you may have come across a few doubters as to the benefits.
First of all, owners will tell you there’s no better way of cooking food and the background warmth from the oven keeps much of the home warm for seven or more months of the year. And who could resist leaning against the towel rail on a cold winter’s day? However, many doubts surrounding these cookers still remain and some stem from a lack of knowledge about how to operate them. If that’s the case then time at an AGA demonstration is well spent.
Below is part one in a list of common myths about AGAs and the facts that should put your mind at ease if you’re considering making a purchase.
“AGAs are expensive to buy, you can get a decent range cooker for much less.”
Yes, you can get a range cooker for far less but an AGA lasts for decades and will probably outlive you. And they have more uses than just cooking such as a way to dry clothes, heat the house and dry out herbs.
“If you get a gas AGA you need to install a flue, the majority of gas ranges don’t need one.”
With a balanced flue it’s pretty easy to put a hole into a wall and it doesn’t cost much more to do during installation. Qualified AGA installers will do this for you.
“They’re expensive to run because they’re always on whether you need it or not.”
Yes, they are always on but you’ll save money on central heating because you won’t need heating until much later in the year. The latest models have slumber modes and will pre-heat the oven as and when you need it. You won’t need to run other kitchen appliances such as kettles, toasters or tumble dryers. If you buy an 30amp electric model and run Economy 7 electricity, the cooker will only draw power at night – some owners estimate a £12 per week running cost.
“If you switch your AGA off, it takes days to heat up again.”
Not so. Most ovens will heat up overnight and if you’re away for a few days and want to turn it off just put it into slumber mode.
“They need servicing every six months. It’s costly and it’s more time without an oven because you have to switch it off for the service.”
Well, we’ve already addressed the point about heating up again after being turned off, however only the oil burning models need six month AGA servicing. Gas options need a yearly service (as every gas appliance should) and some electric models only need servicing every 5 years.
“New models have ceramic insulation but what happens if you buy an older oven. They’ve got asbestos in them!”
The old models did indeed have asbestos rope insulation in the lids but the likelihood is that when buying an old AGA it will be reconditioned and hence the asbestos has been removed and replaced with ceramic. If your old oven hasn’t had this work done, it will only cost around £20 to sort the problem out.
If you are one of the many people who aspire to owning an AGA cooker, or would like to view one in action at an AGA cookery demonstration, pay a visit to Edwards and Godding, the UK Aga specialists.
