Home Remodeling – Tips for Giving Away Unwanted Supplies Or Scrap Materials no comments
Are you remodeling a house? If so, you are going to end up with a lot of trash. However, you will also notice that some items are salvageable. You should consider listing these items for free on a classified website like Craigslist.org. Before doing so, keep these helpful tips in mind.
Can You Make Money?
When you are doing a large scale home remodeling project, you will end up with a lot of leftover junk. It is common to have scrap lumber (from studs or trim), but lets say you redo your kitchen and replace that “okay” stove with a brand new one. That okay stove isn’t old enough to trash and it is nice enough that you don’t want to give it away for free, so try and sell it. Whenever possible, see if you can make money. You have nothing to lose by trying. And say that old stove sells for $50. That is $50 you can use towards your new home improvement project.
Post Pictures
If you use a website like Craigslist.org, which is recommended because it is free to post for sale or free items on the site, you have the option to upload up to 4 pictures. Take at least one. Whether you are giving away a free bathroom vanity or a scrap pile of lumber – take a picture. This way anyone interested sees for themselves upfront what they are getting. This results in less wasted time for you.
Provide a Good Description
This is inline with uploading at least one picture for your “free” ad on a classified website. Basically, you want to make sure that all interested consumers know upfront what they are getting. So say that scrap pile of lumber still has nails in it. By stating so, you aren’t going to waste time meeting a consumer who changed their mind because they felt you should have removed the nails first.
Avoid Curb Alerts
Curb alerts or driveway alerts are when you post information on what you have for free, give your address, and say “whoever comes first gets it.” If you are still in the middle of your home improvement project, you don’t want to have to stop every hour to greet someone who shows up. Leave a phone number. Only agree to meet interested takers when it is easy and convenient for you.
Remove Your Listing Afterward
So lets say your stack of scrap wood is gone or that old stove is gone – someone took it for free! Great! Now, you need to remove the listing from online. All classified websites make this very easy and it should take no more than 5 minutes. Whether you have people calling you, emailing you, or just showing up at your house to pick through your scrap home improvement supplies, it takes time away from your remodeling project. So avoid the hassle and remove the listing as soon as possible.
You Won’t Load It
Finally, if you have any large items (such as an old stove or old heavy studs), make it known in your online listing that you are not going to deliver the item or help them load it. Simply state that pickup and loading is their responsibility.
As a reminder, giving away supplies, equipment, and materials that are leftover from your home improvement project is a simple way to reduce your trash or dumpster fees.

A Natural Gas Patio Heater for a Worthwhile Activity Spent Outdoors no comments
There are so many homeowners who embrace outdoor living nowadays. This desire to embrace nature right in their homes is fueled by the increasing demands in their working environment. People are almost always pressed for time. There are hectic schedules that need to be followed every day. Meetings have to be organized and attended every so often. Without a convenient place where they can get a breather, people will easily succumb to burn out. Thus, they fashion a tranquil space in their outdoors where they can go out and have a relaxing time each day. This space becomes easily available to the homeowners. A moment spent each day in here is enough to quell the pressures from their chaotic life.
As with most outdoor spaces, they are typically utilized at night. This is the time when homeowners get home and spend a quiet time alone or with their family. Going out in the patio during these times, people will mostly be presented with cold winds. Staying out in the open can then become an unbearable thing to do. In order to dispel the cold, homeowners have to invest in a natural gas patio heater.
A natural gas patio heater will make it possible for outdoor spaces to be rendered usable even late at night. Since this is the only time homeowners get to spend precious hours on their own, it is important that they feel warm and comfortable outdoors. A thirty-minute to an hour of peace outdoors can help greatly in clearing their minds.
At other times, this may be the only occasion they can catch up with their family. Having a romantic dinner with the spouse or a lovely evening with the whole family can make up for all the lost time they had during deadline weeks. With the cozy heat the natural gas patio heater brings, the homeowners together with their family can savor the time spent together without being bothered by the cold. Spending an hour or so in the patio then becomes a worthwhile activity with the help of a natural gas patio heater.
Make your home warm and beautiful by adding patio heaters and cool outdoor furniture.
Tiles Are The Best Choice For An Outdoor Patio no comments
The patio should be a place where you can connect with the nature without having to leave the comfort of your own home. This is why it is better to choose natural materials to decorate it. Limestone tiles or marble ones are widely used because they come in a great variety of colors and designs. You can create a masterpiece in your own patio that you will get to enjoy every day. After all, we spend a great deal of time there even if we don’t realize it. We can get out of the house into a beautifully decorated yard to have coffee in the morning, or even lunch. Patios are excellent for a barbeque party, or even a stylish evening reunion with friends or colleagues.
Tiles are definitely an excellent choice for a patio. They are suitable for many reasons; this is why they are widely used. It is not enough to have your house fabulously decorated, if it is surrounded by a yard that isn’t taken care of. First of all they look fantastic. You can create fabulous mosaic tiles designs and your patio will be admired by all the guests. Most of the people prefer a rustic yard, so limestone tiles are really suitable to help creating this look.
Looks aren’t everything. One has to see the practical aspects of choosing tiles too. Because we are referring to an outdoor space, weather conditions can influence a great deal the materials used to cover the ground. There are several types of tiles that are specially designed for outside use because they are very resistant to high temperatures, to water and even to snow and ice. This way you won’t have to replace them all the time. Even pyramids were built using limestone and they lasted until nowadays, facing the extreme desert temperatures.
The patio is an area of high traffic, where dirt can be brought on shoes, or where one can drop a hot coal while having a barbeque party. Tiles are generally resistant to water, fire and mud. Another type of flooring would have been totally damaged in the case of such an accident. Using tiles can save you a lot of work and definitely a lot of money. The investment might seem a little big in the beginning, but not having to worry about maintaining them, or replacing the broken pieces can be a real advantage.
In what concerns cleaning, tiles that are suitable for outdoor use need almost no maintenance at all. They can be washed and swept without any problems at all. Still, there are some types of tiles that detergents can damage, but those are not recommended by professionals for outdoor use.
The beige and honey limestone tiles are wonderful, extremely practical and they also offer the warm feeling that almost all homeowners are looking for.

Is High Pressure Water Jetting the Right Tool for Me? no comments
A drainage system is a vital feature of any building, whether it is a house or a workplace.
Drains make sure that your home or business is hygienic, sanitary, and a safe place in which to live and work.
Unfortunately, most buildings will, at some point, suffer drainage blockages as drains become damaged and deteriorate with the passage of time, usage and sometimes the careless attention of some householders.
The only time most people think about their drains is when they are already damaged, leaving them with a blocked drain, and a myriad of potential problems.
It’s a good idea to tackle potential drain problems before they become unmanageable by using drainage systems correctly. It is important to be careful of what you put down your sinks, keeping in mind that because drainage pipes are not a proper means of waste disposal, we need to be sure they are properly cleaned and maintained in good condition.
Without regular and diligent deep cleaning, it is difficult to preserve a drain system and keep all of its components in optimal health.
One of the cleanest and most environmentally friendly drainage techniques used to eliminate any blockages is water jetting or drain jetting. This high pressure tool uses a highly concentrated stream of water mixed with abrasive particles to cut through a material. It is widely considered the most effective way to remove any blockages from drains, allowing you to avoid costly pipe replacement.
It is important that you use a professional drainage specialist who is trained and experienced in using this kind of equipment. Because the water comes out from the jet at such a high pressure, it is a real health and safety hazard and can easily injure anyone who uses the equipment incorrectly. The best tip is to stay well away from the equipment while it is being used.
Despite its potential danger to inexperienced users, high pressure water jetting is safe and quiet enough to be used inside your home if necessary.
Sometimes, high pressure water jetting isn’t the right choice for every kind of obstruction. Simpler hindrances can often be fixed by a sewer snake or other means. However, if your pipes have significant problems from excessive disposal of cooking fats and oils, along with other domestic products and DIY materials such as plaster, the drain jet is the best option.
Nonetheless it is also helpful to have good quality drains installed in your household, as this makes the cleaning more effective by allowing higher pressure water to travel through the system without the danger of breaking pipes. It also makes blockage far less likely in the first place.
If you are not sure what to do or want to know a little more about drain unblocking or other drain services, please contact Drain-fix. We will gladly help and inform you of the best solution for solving any drain problem!
Cleaning Your Tiffany Lamp no comments
Regarded as beautiful objects fit to grace any elegant decor scheme, Tiffany Lamps have long been admired. Tiffany Studios original lamps are very expensive to buy at auctions and art fairs today and collectors exist the world over. More reasonable Tiffany style lamps are commonly offered today and in many cases offer a great alternative to the originals and at a fraction of the cost.
LAMPS IN THE TIFFANY STYLE
There are a great many Tiffany style lamps offered on the open market today. Organic designs featured strongly on the original Tiffany lamps and were a statement of their time. Art Nouveau was the new trend fashion and organic shapes and colours were very much the in thing. Today, many reproductions are manufactured of the original Tiffany lamps. As well as the reproductions, there is a huge selection of styles of Tiffany lamps today featuring designs from all eras. Every variation of style is available from Cubist, Art Deco and even modernist examples. All in my view are object d’art and tell of the artisans who create such beautiful home decor items.
BRAND NEW TIFFANY STYLE LAMPS
Most new Tiffany style lamps are delivered with a coating of oil or wax to protect the lamp in transport. Remove this coating to receive the most from your lamp. Clean the shade and base with clean cloths bringing each glass panel to a brilliance. The lamp looks so much better straight away.
REGULAR CLEANING OF YOUR TIFFANY LAMP
By their very nature, Tiffany lamps are composed of many pieces of art glass soldered together. The various and numerous panels, indentations and raised nature of the solder acts as a trap for dust, grease and grime. The very best way to get the most from your Tiffany lamp is to keep it immaculately clean. The colours are brighter and more vivid and the whole lamp looks so much better. Keep your lamp spotless by regular dusting. Gently rub each panel of glass with a clean micro fibre cloth to bring to a polish. Wet the cloth with clean water if you encounter a stubborn patch of dirt. If pure water does not work add a small amount of detergent to the cloth and rub the glass very gently. Dry the lamp thoroughly after cleaning and bring the whole shade to a polish. Vacuum any inaccessible areas of the base and shade to remove deep dust. The small brush attachments available with most domestic vacuum cleaners are ideal for this.
Once the whole lamp has been cleaned; use a clean micro fibre cloth and dust the whole lamp (don’t forget the inside of the shade and the base). This way you can appreciate your lamp at its very best with the colours and tones that make these lamps so special.

Securing the Attic for the Best Home Security no comments
Often overlooked when worrying about home security, the attic can be one of the most vulnerable areas of the house. There are many reasons behind why the attic is so vulnerable to intrusions, many of which can be easily protected. The problem is that the average family does not consider securing the attic until it is far too late. More often than not the attic is left unsecured, and viewed as a place ‘too difficult to gain access to anyway.’ This in and of itself can lead to danger, because any thief of opportunity can easily identify a home with easy attic access.
The first major step to take towards protecting your home security is to ensure that the only access to your attic is through the actual home. If there are any windows, doors, or external entryways at all your home could be under serious threat of an intrusion. If necessary, call in a professional to seal off any former openings leading to the attic, and have the proper secure ventilation systems installed. Even with the same buzzers and motion detectors used on the rest of the house, it is just too difficult to secure openings that high off the ground, so it’s best to seal the problem off from the very start!
Many homeowners additionally make the mistake of leaving external access points like the garage, storm doors to the basement, or entrances to crawl spaces wide open. Keep in mind that using a simple padlock is as good as leaving the front door to your property wide open as a padlock can be knocked off with one swift blow by any average person on the street, let alone an experienced thief or other intruder. Make sure that all locks are of top quality and are accessed from inside the home. If possible, as with the attic seal off the entrance entirely and create another alternative entrance that is only accessible through the actual home.
With the attic secured, it’s time to make sure nobody can gain access to the rest of the home. Using a monitored home security system to immediately notify authorities, and to yourself be notified of any disturbances is generally considered the best way to go. Not only do you have a full security team on your side 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but your home is three times less likely to be broken into just by virtue of having the signage that says you are protected. Considering that the average criminal only wants two things: to get away with the crime and to benefit economically, a home alarm system is the best thorn a homeowner can stick in the criminal’s side. For one, the criminal knows that he or she will not have much time in the home to find the most valuable items which are often stored away, and two it’s far more likely that the authorities will arrive before they can make a clean escape. Be sure to protect not only your attic, but your entire residence with the power of modern technology and as always, good common sense.
It’s time to protect your home top to bottom, basement to attic with TotalAlarmSystems.com. Consider a home security camera for the best surveillance security out there.
Help Your Home Theatre Sound With the MultEQ From Audyssey no comments
With the advent of 7.1, 9.1, and 11.1 in home theatre sound they have created quite a problem. Adding all these extra speakers could make for an incredible night of entertainment; but it could also take away from your enjoyment. The wide and height speakers actually create a problem, the speakers are actually at different distances from you to each other. In other words the wide speakers are going to be closer to you then the fronts and the heights are going to be the furthest away from you. Audyssey saw this problem and came up with a solution and called it the MultEQ.
Auto room calibration has been around home theatre sound for decades and nobody has seemed to get it right usually leaving the user, upset and not using it. What they have done at Audyssey is to create an eq for the frequencies and also for time. With Audyssey MultEQ you set it – the mic – in the middle of the room and as you sit quietly it sends pings to the speakers and calibrates the way the room reacts to the pings.
It will also test from different areas of the room, this is what the old time auto eq’s were missing, generally they would sound o.k. from one area of the room then the other areas sounded awful, hense user not using it. Now with the newest MultEQ XT32 with it’s thousands of control points has got the capability to hear your room from almost every sitting position. Which is going to put your home theatre experience through the roof, and all friends will want to know how you did it.
MultEQ comes with most of the newer, mid to upper end receivers. So, in your search for a new receiver make sure it has at the bare minimum the MultEQ. The MultEQ XT32 has the thousands of control points for a better more refined home theatre sound.
Home Theatre Sound is constantly on the move and hard to keep track of. I have dedicated myself to the advancements of such and look forward to the dips and turns; you in?

Evaluate a Contractor’s 3 Cs no comments
When building your own home, you need to hire a good contractor. In order to make the smartest choice, you could use some advice. A very good strategy in picking up the best contractor for you is to analyze the 3 Cs – cost, craftsmanship, compatibility.
Cost. This is rather tricky, because, although cost is very important, is the least important when picking a contractor. When the contractor deals with purchasing the materials, you will have a plain idea who is working on the lowest margins and who has an easy access to lowest costs regarding labor and materials.
Craftsmanship. You really need to be convinced that your home will be built efficiently. You need a good contractor with good references. You could very well ask him for further references with the homes he has recently built, as for the homes he built some years ago, in order to see the results of his work in the long run. Also talk to the people who own those houses if they have experienced any kind of problems with their home. A very good advice you could get is to ask the contractor about his workmanship warranty. These types of warranties usually last ten years, but they can vary.
Compatibility. This is the most important “C”. Through this, you will need to identify the contractor that is compatible with your style, with your way of seeing things. You need someone to give the sense of security, someone who can “read” you, to know when to take decisions and which decisions to take by himself.
Don’t be afraid to ask open questions that can offer you an image of the contractor’s personality, as people have different opinions on what quality means and experience.

How to Seal Your Bathtub no comments
Difficulty: Easy
Equipment
Silicone
Silicone gun
Knife/ Scissors
washing up liquid
Cloth
Time: About two hours
Risk: Small
New baths will need to be sealed in order to stop water from leaking round their edges. Old baths may need their seals replaced if they have become damaged. In both cases a silicone seal is a suitable solution.
1) Baths can move when they are filled with water. If a silicone seal is applied to an empty bath, then the seal may break or crack if the bath does move. Start by filling the bath to its overflow level.
2) Take the applicator nozzle and cut the end to a suitable size with a knife or pair of scissors.
3) Cut open the tube of silicone
4) Attach the applicator nozzle to the silicone tube.
5) Draw back the rod on the silicone gun.
6) Slide the silicone tube into the gun.
7) Pull the trigger lightly so that the rod presses against the back of the tube.
Clean the edges of the bath and remove any old silicone. You can use a suitable tool to scrape this off. Take care not to scratch the bath tub.
9) Point the gun at the gap at the edge of the bath and pull the trigger. Apply an even pressure to the trigger to ensure an even finish.
10) Move along the edge applying the silicone in a consistent line.
11) Use a finger covered in washing up liquid to smooth the silicone. Smoothly run your finger over the silicone to even out the finish
12) Any excess silicone can be removed with a cloth and some washing up liquid.
13) Wait for the silicone to set and clean the seal the next day with a damp cloth.
Any tools required for this task can be bought from toolbox. They provide a wide variety of tools and equipment.
