Tips to Attach Shade Sail to Deck no comments
These sails come in many different sizes, colors and shade structure like square shade, triangular shade, and personal shade canopy. Shade sails are mostly made of polyethylene or acrylics that are extremely strong. Anyone can install these sails, by using common tools and hardware, to make your weekend more pleasant and peace. Following are the tips to attach those sails to your home.
• Draw a rough sketch of the existing deck in a sheet of paper. At least one vertex of the sail should be attached to the roof structure, and the other ends of the sail should be connected to railings or walls. If suppose multiple shade sails are used, place the sails in such a way that the edges of the individual sails are connected with adjacent sails. These multiple sails will give fashion attractive and rich outline.
• Move all your furniture outside the deck. Fix the sun shade sails in the appropriate location on the deck, as you drawn in the sketch previously. Mark the planned location of your sail end connections on the roof, fence and railing surfaces.
• Make holes for eye-hooks and pad-eye slots at the pointed position on the roof and wall. Eye-bolts and rafter-bolts should be used at the roof structure. These bolts should be attached using a friction connection, such as nuts and bolts with washers. Lag screws will really work out, but they cannot bear the same load as friction connection bolts. Pad-eyes are placed at walls and railings. If possible, pad-eyes can be fixed with friction connections also. Bolts on many railings will agreeable; however, most wall installations are used lag screws because of the orientation and construction of the surfaces.
• Screw or bolt the rafter-bolts, eye-bolts and pad-eyes to the surfaces all around the deck. Do not over-tighten lag screws because the wood can be damaged by slip threads on the screw. Tighten bolts until the washers noticeably bend the surface of the wood.
• Then finally attach the turnbuckles to the rafter-bolts, eye-bolts and pad-eyes. Affix the ends of the shade sails to the turnbuckles. The shade sails and their hardware equipments need to be adjusted to remove loose-fitting from the sail. After adjusting the sun shade hardware, turn the turnbuckles until there is no wrinkle in the sail’s tough surface.
Here are few more tips and warning to have an eye on it:
• Posts can be included to railings to lengthen the height of the shade sail ends. These posts require special installation structure of shade sails. Correct installation of post will formulate long-lasting, effective outdoor shade protection.
• Proper installation of shade structure is really important. The nervousness in such system can cause damage if a connection fails. Be confident to use the proper hardware when installing shade sails.

Make Your Bathroom Warmer and More Inviting no comments
What could be more luxurious in winter than a warm bathroom? Fortunately, this is one luxury that almost anyone can achieve without sacrificing period style or your pocketbook. So many of the more desirable options are completely affordable. For instance, plug-in electric towel warms are under $150, and overhead rain shower fixtures begin at only $60. You can find a good pressure-balance mixer for as little as $200. At the other end of the spectrum, for those with money to spend, you may want to consider a jetted pedestal tub or steam shower system, which might set you back a few thousand dollars.
You will find that towel warmers and radiators come in two basic styles: the traditional round tube shape and the flat-panel “Euro” style. If you’re dealing with a smaller space, a great option is a tubular towel-warming basket, which can be mounted to keep your hot fluffy towels within easy reach.
Every towel warmer will generate heat, but some of the more powerful hard-wired versions can rightly be considered radiators. Inexpensive electric models that put out 100 watts or so are great, because they not only dry the towels in the bathroom but also reduce dampness and mildew. If they’re sized and placed properly, the more powerful hard-wired electric or hydronic towel radiators can easily heat larger spaces. Neither option gets too hot to touch. Electric towel warmers should only reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on how hot you keep the system, hydronics will generally range between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit. These radiators can provide your bathroom with zoned heating.
Visit your local dealer to help find the perfect unit for your space. You need to consider variables such as the amount of tile or stone, the type and location of existing heat sources (steam radiators or forced air), and the number of windows. For those of you will really tiny bathrooms that won’t even fit a small towel warmer, you can probably find room along the baseboard to put a couple of horizontal radiator panels.
When it ultimately comes down to it, it’s the water in the bath or shower that’s most important. You might consider installing a pressure-balanced or thermostatic mixing valve, especially if you are already upgrading the shower. Inexpensive and simple, a pressure-balance valve will keep the water pressure in the shower constant, preventing sudden fluctuations in water temperature caused by such incidents as a flushed toilet, for instance.
If you want your water a more precise temperature, than a thermostatic valve is a good choice. This valve actually mixes hot and cold water together, bringing it within one degree of the setting. You can count on these valves to regulate fluctuations in the incoming water pressure as well.
These truly luxurious valves go for at least $1,000, although you can certainly spend more. Conveniently, many of these mixers are available in suites that include period-inspired shower heads and cross-handled knobs or levers. Even better, some come with memory settings. This feature allows each family member to choose and record a preferred shower temperature for the perfect shower every time.
If you are a shower lover who can’t get enough humidity in winter, consider a steam shower. You’ll probably need a major retrofit to install one. The generator needs its own space, and usually modifications need to be made to accommodate the steam shower doors. On the upside, you’ll use very little water for a twenty-minute steam: only about two gallons. But be prepared. A basic system (including generator, steam head, and temperature controls) starts at about $3,000. Once you’ve added any extras such as stereo speakers, light, and aromatherapy packages, the price will go up.
Are you one of those people who prefer an old-fashioned tub for your bath? Prices for reproduction roll-top designs with claw feet start at about $1,000 for either cast iron or the more environmentally friendly acrylic. There is no place better to soak than in one of these deep tubs. They also come in double-ended styles that will accommodate two, or multiple children. With the claw feet available in different styles and finishes, you can choose a tub that will complement any décor. If you’re looking at high-end options, you can find custom-made tubs in copper, steel, marble, and even teak.
For a traditional tub that will accommodate a water- or air-jet system, go with a pedestal or Roman tub. The skirt will conceal the tubes and motor. Any bathtub can be turned into a home spa with strategically placed jets. This kind of luxury doesn’t come cheap. Expect to pay upward of $4,000 for a fully equipped air-jet tub.

Installing Replacement Windows no comments
Fancy replacing your own windows? Here is a guide on how to install replacement windows. Apart from these windows, the equipments you will need to aid you in the installation are a reciprocating saw, chisel, utility knife, level, caulking gun and caulk, shims, pry bar, hammer, set of nails and finishing nails of 1 1/2 inches, and a tape measure. You will also need some drop cloth.
The first thing you will need to do is to decide on the style and type of material to use for your new windows. The materials that replacement windows are made out of are usually vinyl, wood or composite, and they can come in various styles, like single hung, double hung, or even casement.
Next, you will need to measure the height and width of the windows you wish to replace. The width measured should be from jamb to jamb, which are the two vertical sides of the frame. Measure the top, middle, and bottom as the size may slightly vary if the existing window was not properly built. Then, measure their height from the sill, which is the bottom part of the frame, up to the top of the frame. Do this for the left, middle and right side. The measurements that you will want to use when finding a replacement window would be the smallest one, deducted by a ¼ inch. You may now order the windows using these measurements.
In the meantime, make sure that the windowsills are solid, and are not rotting. You may remove the inside stops of the window which can later be used for the replacements. Then, remove the window sashes by cutting through the nails that keeps them in place, and clean the window frame. Old caulks and nails should be removed, and you are ready to install the replacement windows.
How to install replacement windows is not too difficult. First make sure that the replacement window does fit into the opening by fitting it in. If it fits, then you may remove it and begin the installation process. Have the inside edge of the outside window stops and along the windowsills caulked. Then, place the replacement window into the frame. To ensure that it is placed nicely, use a level and then measure the edges diagonally to make sure they are the same length to see that it is square. Use shims to keep the window in place. Then reinstall the earlier inside stops with the 1 ½ inch finishing nails, and then put in the nails. Caulk the area where the stops meet with the frame.
Do also check the outside part of the window to make sure that the slope of the window should match the sill’s slope, otherwise there should be an insert that can be used to cover the gap. If none is available, use a piece of wood to cover that gap. Complete the installation by caulking the seams in which the insert go against the frame.

Eight Advantages of Wood Kitchen Cabinets no comments
Most realtors will tell you that nothing is more appealing to potential home buyers than natural wood kitchen cabinets. They bring a sense of elegance and warmth into any kitchen. There are a number of additional advantages of wood kitchen cabinets.
- Natural wood cabinets fit any architectural style home and any kitchen style. There are certainly traditions about the woods and finishes most commonly used in different kitchen styles, as well as traditions about cabinet door styles. For example a darker wood like ebony, mahogany or cherry is most appropriate in a traditional, country or eclectic style kitchen. It would rarely be used in contemporary styles.
- Wood cabinets are strong, durable and lasting. Wood base cabinets will easily support any type of counter top material, including stone (granite, slate, marble). It holds up well under heavy use and in steam and heat. Most small dings, dents or scratches can be easily repaired. Over time, wood can be repeatedly re-finished, repaired, cleaned and even painted or stained.
- Solid wood cabinets are clearly preferable to any material that is laminated, glued, or veneered. Cabinets that are made with glue must be very carefully maintained in a kitchen because the glue will be damaged by the moisture over time and the laminate or veneer will begin to curl or peel. Solid wood will not curl or peel.
- Wood kitchen cabinets are available in a wide range of wood choices and grains, allowing a homeowner to select the color and grain that best match the style and décor of their home. Different woods can also be finished in different ways to produce a unique patina that can glow in the warm light of the room.
- Wood kitchen cabinets are made with a large number of different door designs. These styles range from perfectly smooth and flat to the ornately carved designs chosen in some country and traditional kitchens.
- Metal cabinets – somewhat surprisingly – often cost more than wood. Yet most people perceive high-quality wood cabinets as a costly luxury.
- Wood cabinets are safe. Unlike metal cabinets, there is nothing in wood cabinets that can chemically alter the food stored in them. This is particularly important if there are children, elderly persons, or people with illnesses that compromise the immune system.
- Wood kitchen cabinets will never go out of style. For this reason, as well as their beauty and warmth, they enhance the appearance and the value of a home when it is time to sell.
The three most commonly used woods for wood kitchen cabinets are hickory, oak and maple. However, in some kitchen styles cherry and mahogany are preferred. They are also more expensive. The least expensive wood is probably birch or pine. You can also choose more uncommon options, such as ebony, butternut, alder, walnut or bamboo (new to cabinetry but popular because it is a rapidly replenishing eco-friendly material).
