Where To Store Locally   no comments

On every high street and each and every purchasing center there’s at least one house improvement store. They cater for everything from nuts and screws to designer bathrooms! They offer a broad variety of services and there’re reasonably low-cost. There are lots of different kinds of these stores as well, one can find the considerably even bigger more general stores and there are actually the loved ones based dwelling operate kind of stores.

The larger stores are capable to sell their goods a good deal cheaper than the scaled-down stores as they acquire in bulk and that allows the customer to make a much even even bigger saving. Consumers have a tendency to turn to even bigger property advancement stores when they’re shopping for bigger products such as fitted kitchens and bedrooms. They market everything from tiles, glass, hardware, materials and a great deal, a great deal more. More extensive household improvement stores are constructed like large warehouses and are commonly staffed by around 100 folks today or so.

The scaled-down house development stores usually have a tendency to be called DIY (Do it yourself) stores. The don’t deliver the larger items such as the new kitchens and so on, but they supply terrific quality and terrific service as they are a family operate business and have more of a personal touch while using customer. Their products could it’s possible be a tiny bit more high-priced than a significant store but which is for the motive that they cannot acquire in bulk as they could by no means store or sell it on. Countless persons who use more compact household home advancement stores have a tendency to stick with them for all their hardware wants and really don’t have a tendency to shop around, this is due to the basic fact they love the service and get on terrific with the shop keepers. These kind of stores have only about 2-5 personnel working there, because of the actuality the store doesn’t have too a good deal business, unless is it pretty nicely known and loved.

In the event you want a personal touch and a laugh using the store keepers then choose a smaller residence improvement store as the even more extensive ones present rows of tills and workers that are all generic and never appear to have an expression on their face, also the personnel don’t usually know what these are talking about. More compact stores offer wonderful understanding as they are owned by actual tradesman and not some large shot executive. I’m not saying that more substantial household improvement stores are poor, they aren’t. They can be just a bit plain. They may well be cheaper but heading to a scaled-down store is well worth the money!

Eight Advantages of Wood Kitchen Cabinets   no comments

Posted at 6:30 am in Cabinets

Most realtors will tell you that nothing is more appealing to potential home buyers than natural wood kitchen cabinets. They bring a sense of elegance and warmth into any kitchen. There are a number of additional advantages of wood kitchen cabinets.

  1. Natural wood cabinets fit any architectural style home and any kitchen style. There are certainly traditions about the woods and finishes most commonly used in different kitchen styles, as well as traditions about cabinet door styles. For example a darker wood like ebony, mahogany or cherry is most appropriate in a traditional, country or eclectic style kitchen. It would rarely be used in contemporary styles.
  2. Wood cabinets are strong, durable and lasting. Wood base cabinets will easily support any type of counter top material, including stone (granite, slate, marble). It holds up well under heavy use and in steam and heat. Most small dings, dents or scratches can be easily repaired. Over time, wood can be repeatedly re-finished, repaired, cleaned and even painted or stained.
  3. Solid wood cabinets are clearly preferable to any material that is laminated, glued, or veneered. Cabinets that are made with glue must be very carefully maintained in a kitchen because the glue will be damaged by the moisture over time and the laminate or veneer will begin to curl or peel. Solid wood will not curl or peel.
  4. Wood kitchen cabinets are available in a wide range of wood choices and grains, allowing a homeowner to select the color and grain that best match the style and décor of their home. Different woods can also be finished in different ways to produce a unique patina that can glow in the warm light of the room.
  5. Wood kitchen cabinets are made with a large number of different door designs. These styles range from perfectly smooth and flat to the ornately carved designs chosen in some country and traditional kitchens.
  6. Metal cabinets – somewhat surprisingly – often cost more than wood. Yet most people perceive high-quality wood cabinets as a costly luxury.
  7. Wood cabinets are safe. Unlike metal cabinets, there is nothing in wood cabinets that can chemically alter the food stored in them. This is particularly important if there are children, elderly persons, or people with illnesses that compromise the immune system.
  8. Wood kitchen cabinets will never go out of style. For this reason, as well as their beauty and warmth, they enhance the appearance and the value of a home when it is time to sell.

The three most commonly used woods for wood kitchen cabinets are hickory, oak and maple. However, in some kitchen styles cherry and mahogany are preferred. They are also more expensive. The least expensive wood is probably birch or pine. You can also choose more uncommon options, such as ebony, butternut, alder, walnut or bamboo (new to cabinetry but popular because it is a rapidly replenishing eco-friendly material).

Use Cabinet Shelves to Sell Your House for $10K More   no comments

Posted at 2:42 am in Cabinets

Although this article seems a bit out there – it was in fact, an incredible story associated with my home sale. I went 6 months without selling my house. After reorganizing my house with the help of cabinets and some bought and home-made unique cabinet shelves, I found myself with a house that not only looked better, but also sold one month later at $10K higher than the asking price. Below is how I did it.

The first step is to figure out what exactly you can do to organize your house. Wherever you see clothes on the floor, tools on the ground or random items on a table, you should have a fairly strong hint that it is time to figure out some way of organization. This is where you need to consider a strong use of cabinets proper shelving.

Think a bit about the organization of a toolbox. There are multiple layers in a small box that allow a space for each item in each layer. Without the layers of the toolbox, you would be left with one hole for your tools. This is better than leaving your tools on the ground, but it doesn’t maximize the effect of the toolbox. Therefore, the “cabinet shelves” of the toolbox are added to utilize every centimeter of the toolbox. This is the effect we want to be going for with our cabinets and our cabinet shelves.

Where possible, add cabinets to your house – in your garage, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Buy them for your shoes, clothes, tools, medicine, movies and more. Next, construct or buy cabinet shelves that maximize the space of these cabinets. While most cabinets come with their own shelves, this doesn’t mean that you are limited by what comes in stock. Create your own cabinet shelves to create compartments within compartments. Use the cabinet shelves to truly maximize the space within your house.

Once done, you will have a house that looks like a house that a potential buyer will want to buy. Through the intelligent use of cabinet shelves, you may even sell your house for $10K more like I did!

DIY My Own Cabinet   no comments

Posted at 7:06 pm in Cabinets

Every family has many cabinets, and they actually provide with much convenience to our daily life. But will you get tired of your cabinets after a long time? Actually I always change the color of my cabinets. The new color makes me refreshing and excited. If you want to change your cabinet color, now do as the following steps.

At first, you should remove you cabinet doors. It is not difficult to remove screws from your cabinet hinges. Be sure that you place them in a tidy place, or you will find them until you get everything ready.

The Second thing, clean the cabinets. Make sure that your cabinet doors are clean, and you can use detergent and sponges to remove dirt or grease. Those crannies and nooks should not be ignored. As detergent has strong smell, you have to open your window ahead of time.

The Third thing, apply primer-sealer. This step is very important. After your cabinet doors are clean and air-dry, you need to use the primer-sealer to cover the whole surface of the doors. At the same time, you can use waterproof paint and high-gloss paint on your doors. But I think semi-gloss paint will make your doors more pretty. Beginning with the middle part and then spread to other parts. It will take your about one hour until it becomes dry.

The Fourth thing, paint the door with your favorite color. A good brush will be a great help. Like the previous step, you begin your painting with the middle part. Each time you just paint a light coat, and 2 or 3 light coats will make your painting more lively and pretty. Make sure that you leave enough time for drying. Good drying will make your color last a long time. Four hours for each light coat has the best effect.

The Fifth thing, paint the cabinet base. After you have painted all doors, you can paint your cabinet base. Just like the painting of the doors, you do the same steps.
After your base is dry, you can reassemble the cabinets. Now your house becomes much prettier.

After you change the color of your cabinet, you can also change for new Cabinet Knobs.

Small Details, Big Results With Kitchen Cabinet Handles   no comments

Posted at 6:41 pm in Cabinets

You may find yourself standing in your kitchen one day and thinking, “This needs a little change.” How do you do this without replacing cabinets, changing countertops, or buying new appliances? A simple change may be enough to do a quick update – replace your kitchen cabinet handles. Even if you are making a big change–designing a kitchen in a brand-new house or taking on a complete remodel, the cabinet hardware you choose makes a statement.

With the wide range of options in kitchen cabinet handles, your can create many different looks. But take care with the installation. Installing the handles properly will give you look you want – a well-executed, integrated design for the room that is the gathering place in your home.

If you are adding knobs, your project is a little simpler than if you are adding handles. When you attach knobs, you make a single hole in each cabinet door and drawer face in your kitchen. But if you are using cabinet handles, the installation needs extra attention to detail to get you the perfect results you want.

Unless you are willing to fill the existing holes drilled for the handles, be sure that the drawer handles you select to replace the old ones will fit in the existing holes. Measure the distance between the two holes, or to be certain, bring an old handle to the home improvement store and compare them to the ones you are considering. In addition to the distance between the two bolts, consider the length of the bolts on the kitchen cabinet handles you select. Look for a perfect fit; a bolt that is too short or too long won’t attach securely to the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Doing this prevents a mistake that costs you time on the job.

If you are replacing old kitchen handles, it’s as simple as removing all the old hardware and adding on the new. You have no holes to make, no concerns with drilling incorrectly, and no mess to clean up. It’s a quick and satisfying upgrade.

If you are adding cabinet handles to new cabinets, you need to plan your project. Work carefully, and you will enjoy the results.

A good thing about adding these handles to new cabinets is you can choose whatever size you want. Still, be sure that the bolts provided with the kitchen cabinet handles are long enough to fit through the face of the drawers and doors.

When it’s time to pull out your tools and install the new handles, consider investing in a template that helps you place the hardware perfectly. These templates are inexpensive, and they help you perfectly align that row or column of drawer handles. Sure, you can do the math, measure carefully, and get good results without using the template. But if you’ve got a large kitchen and dozens of pieces of hardware to install, consider using this time-saving tool.

Your kitchen cabinets are a big investment, so take some precautions before you drill. Even when you measure carefully, your eye is the best judge to see if the kitchen cabinet handles look right. Look at the alignment before you drill. If it doesn’t look right, adjust the placement as necessary to have the alignment look right.

Place a small square of masking tape over the spots where you will drill holes, and mark the exact drill spot with pencil. Slowly drilling through the masking tape helps prevent the finish from splintering and being damaged by the drill bit.

Your Old Knobs In Someone’s New Kitchen   no comments

Posted at 4:47 pm in Cabinets

Spring is a time for projects. Usually, people spent all winter looking around their home and finding lots of things they think they prefer to have looking another way. So, as soon as spring pops around, renovation projects get started. If you’re planning a renovation project, chances are you’ve got a list of all the new things you want to bring into your house to make it look fresher and more inviting than you think it does now. But what consideration have you put into the old things you’re going to be removing from your home? Most people just haul out of trashcan for any of the old things they’re removing from their home thinking that since they no longer want them, that no one else does either. But if you’re spring project includes redoing the cabinets and taking off all those old knobs and handles, you would be wrong.

When you look around your kitchen, you see knobs, handles and pulls that you’ve been using for a number of years. To you, they’re old and boring, worn and drab. That’s why you’re going to change them out for something fresher and newer, right? But that doesn’t mean they’re no longer useful. It just means they’re boring to you. As you take off those old hardware pieces take a good look at them. Are they still in good working order? Could they be used in someone else’s kitchen or bathroom and still have plenty of years of life in them? If the answer is yes you need to not throw these away. Instead give them a new life by giving them to a charity.

When a lot of people think of donating things to charity they think of donating large cash amounts or big things that can make a charity a lot of money. But most charities, especially those that run thrift stores, like all sorts of items. Useful items, such as your old cabinet knobs, are especially appreciated. After all, if you’re looking for new knobs for your cabinets to spruce things up, someone else is too. And while you’re hardware may be old to you, it may be a new and refreshing thing for someone else.

You should also take into account a lot of the people that are purchasing things at charity thrift stores are doing so because they’re trying to save money. Some of them are just frugal shoppers. But others are people who really don’t have a lot of extra money to spend but would still like to have nice things. By you donating your pulls and other cabinet hardware to a charity they can sell it at a more affordable price allowing that person to be able to afford the renovation project they’ve been hoping for.

So instead of just adding to the landfill in throwing out those old cabinet knobs and other hardware pieces, why not let them continue to live and brighten the life of someone else, as they did for you when you first got them. So once you finish your project, donate them to a charity and enjoy the feeling of helping out with a good cause.
