DIY My Own Cabinet   no comments

Every family has many cabinets, and they actually provide with much convenience to our daily life. But will you get tired of your cabinets after a long time? Actually I always change the color of my cabinets. The new color makes me refreshing and excited. If you want to change your cabinet color, now do as the following steps.

At first, you should remove you cabinet doors. It is not difficult to remove screws from your cabinet hinges. Be sure that you place them in a tidy place, or you will find them until you get everything ready.

The Second thing, clean the cabinets. Make sure that your cabinet doors are clean, and you can use detergent and sponges to remove dirt or grease. Those crannies and nooks should not be ignored. As detergent has strong smell, you have to open your window ahead of time.

The Third thing, apply primer-sealer. This step is very important. After your cabinet doors are clean and air-dry, you need to use the primer-sealer to cover the whole surface of the doors. At the same time, you can use waterproof paint and high-gloss paint on your doors. But I think semi-gloss paint will make your doors more pretty. Beginning with the middle part and then spread to other parts. It will take your about one hour until it becomes dry.

The Fourth thing, paint the door with your favorite color. A good brush will be a great help. Like the previous step, you begin your painting with the middle part. Each time you just paint a light coat, and 2 or 3 light coats will make your painting more lively and pretty. Make sure that you leave enough time for drying. Good drying will make your color last a long time. Four hours for each light coat has the best effect.

The Fifth thing, paint the cabinet base. After you have painted all doors, you can paint your cabinet base. Just like the painting of the doors, you do the same steps.
After your base is dry, you can reassemble the cabinets. Now your house becomes much prettier.

After you change the color of your cabinet, you can also change for new Cabinet Knobs.

Cabinet Doors – Selecting the Right Hinges   no comments

It is not easy to find the right kind of material for your cabinet doors. You have to choose from metal, plastic, wood and glass. Once you have decided on the material, you also have to take some detailed decisions. Normally, people prefer wood as a material for cabinet doors. In general, you can go for a solid wood or a lighter wood. Before making any decision in this regard, do take into consideration factors like weight and price.

If you are interested in getting cabinets of cherry and oak, make sure that your cabinet door hinges can handle them properly. Although, these solid wood cabinets are good in terms of quality but they are quite costly as compared to other cabinetry choices. If you do not like the feel of bigger cabinet door hinges, you have to look out for different variety of wood.

Plenty of cabinets are made of woods such as particleboard and plywood. There are some people who think that cabinet doors made from particleboard and plywood are not of high quality. This is not true as wood pieces are normally cut to the perfect shape. Furthermore, they are finished and stained too in order to give a classy feel to your cabinetry.

The plywood cabinets are lighter in nature as compared to the thicker, solid wood cabinets. Instead of going for big cherry cabinet doors, you should go for a decorative cabinet door hinges. The best part about decorative cabinet door hinges is that it adds an extra bit of class to your cabinetry.

Talking about particleboard, some people believe that it is not suitable for daily usage as it is not that strong. But this is not the case anymore as particleboard of today are sturdier made from chips of glue and wood. Stronger adhesives are also the reason why particleboard of today is lot stronger as compared to previous years.

Good thing about hinges is that they are normally five to ten times stronger than the job they are expected to do. You should decide on the kind of cabinet door hinge on the basis of your cabinet door quality. Cabinet door are of three types, namely, overlay, lipped and flush. A lipped cabinet door is the one, which has a lip cut around it. On the other hand, flush door rests within the frame of the door. Last but not the least is the overlay door that rests on the frame of the door. In addition, Glass Cabinets Doors is an excellent option.
