Affordable Livingroom Decoration Ideas   no comments

Do you have a living room that simply looks outdated? If your living room is outdated and old but you don’t have too much money, don’t despair. You can be cost effective and still do lots of things to breathe new life into the room. The tips and ideas in this article will help you make some nice changes to give new life to the living room.

Freshen up the walls

Changing up your walls is the easiest way to update your living room’s look. Basic white or cream colored walls might be what you have right now, you might even have old paneling. Today, texture can be added to the room with faux finishes, and you can easily accomplish the look.

In order to create beautiful walls, you’ll need to first chose a basic color of paint. You can chose a color like soft blue, terracotta, a sand shade or any shade you choose. Once that’s finished you can add the faux finish with a feather duster, rubber stamp, or rag rolling technique. Just about any faux finish can be found online, along with instructions on how to complete it.

Revive your furniture

Do you have some pretty worn out furniture? As long as your furniture is still structurally sound, you can do a few things to make it look like new again. You can paint or refinish any wooden accents you may have on your sofa or love seat. You can give your furniture an entirely new appearance with slipcovers or you can clean it if you want. The slipcovers of today, unlike those of years ago, can fit the sofa without looking as if you simply threw a sheet over it.

Consider using plush throw pillows in a design that suits your decorating style that are also boldly colored. As long as you choose colors that complement the room, stripes, checks floral and geometric patterns all work.

Find some old treasures

Many people don’t realize that they have some pretty great resources right under their nose. Things you may have put away in your attic or basement long ago can be found there. You can renew things like an old lamp, an antique trunk or accent table by giving them a fresh coat of paint or new lamp shade. Some people don’t realize it, but you can paint many paper lamp shade. Any old ceramic base lamps you may have can be painted, and you can work some stenciling magic on them.

Further transform your living room by taking out some old accents and accessories if you have them. You can make a room look cluttered and messy with too many accessories. Add interest to the living room by using only a few boldly colored accents.

Just as the old saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” It is very true.. Garage sales and flea markets are great places to find some nice deals. Just use a bit of creativity to give them a new look. Grab one of your old wooden accent tables and give it a fresh coat of paint in order to have a new piece of furniture. Throwing a bit of imagination and creativity into the mix can make decorating on a budget much easier.

Simple Tips for Choosing the Best Decorating Style   no comments

Posted at 4:40 pm in Interior Decorating

One of the most difficult aspects of decorating a home is deciding on a style you like that fits your home. It often takes people longer to come up with a theme or style for a room than the actual shopping and decorating. If you’re having some difficulty coming up with a great style for you and your home, then here are some great suggestions that can help get you started.

Consider the Natural Style of Your Home
If your home reflects a particular feel, that can be the easiest way to find a style for your entire decor. For example, a country or traditional decor would be a natural fit for an old country home. On the other hand, a Southwestern theme would fit better with a home that’s built using Spanish-style architecture. These suggestions, of course, aren’t set in stone, but they are a great way to go if you’re unsure about which decorating style to pick.

Look Through Home Decorating Magazines and Books
Another way to get plenty of great ideas for your home is to go through some of the home decorating magazines and books at your local library. The style should be something that fits the architecture of your home and also something you’re in love with. Remember, you don’t have to have only one theme in your home but instead can have a different style in every room if that’s what you want. If you come across styles you like, jot down some notes. You might also make some photocopies for future reference.

Do Research on the Internet on Different Decorating Styles
A great way to research the different decorating styles you’re contemplating is to use the Internet. You can check out pictures of all the different styles. You may be able to find articles and tips on decorating as well. You may end up finding that you fall in love with one or two of the styles and can thus drop the rest of them.

Determine the Function of a Room Before Choosing a Decorating Style
Keep in mind that the purpose of a room isn’t always going to fit with every decorating style. Modern decor, for instance, may not be appropriate for a family room where you’re looking for a comfortable space to relax, watch television, and play games. You should have an idea of what you want in each room in the house before you start planning any decorating projects or spending any money. After all, you don’t want to go through all the work of decorating only to realize that what you’ve done doesn’t fit the function of the room and you have to start over.

Consider Who Is Living in the House
If you are living with small children or pets, then this may limit your options. It’s important to consider who’s living in the home and who will be using the room before you decorate. Of course, the sky’s the limit if all you need to please is your spouse and yourself.

In order to find a decorating style you love that fits your home and needs, you may have to spend some time planning, but it shouldn’t be stressful. Use these guidelines to determine the best style and you will enjoy spending time in your home day after day.

3 Tips for Choosing Slipcovers   no comments

Posted at 10:56 pm in Interior Decorating

If you’re looking to change up the theme or style of your living room, you don’t necessarily have to buy all new couches and chairs. A great way to change the style and colors of a piece of furniture quickly and easily is with a slipcover. Here are some helpful hints to help you get started in looking for new slipcovers for your family room furnishings.

Choose Cotton or Polyester-Blend Slipcovers for High-Traffic Areas
Your best bet is to go with a slipcover that’s cotton or a polyester blend if your couches and chairs tend to get a lot of traffic. This type of material will hold up the best when it comes to wear and tear. It does tend to wrinkle, but you can run an iron over the slipcovers and the wrinkles come right out. Cotton and polyester slipcovers tend to be inexpensive, although you can also find higher-end cotton slipcovers as well.

Buy the Appropriate Size Slipcover
If you find the perfect slipcover for your couch but it’s not quite big enough, do not try to use it. A too-small slipcover on a couch or chair will end up looking too tight and you will probably be able to see parts of the couch peeking out from under it. It’s not any better to use a slipcover that’s too large for a furniture piece. The furniture will only end up looking very sloppy and unpolished. Be sure to measure your furniture before you go out to look for a slipcover. This will ensure the proper fit.

Decide What Type of Slipcover You Prefer
One type of slipcover form fits against the couch. This allows you to see the couch’s every outline. The other option is a looser-fitting slipcover, one that simply drapes and hangs loosely off the couch and other furniture. One thing to remember is that with tight-fitting slipcovers, you may find that you’re constantly rearranging it whenever people sit on it and move about. This type of slipcover also may rip more easily from being pulled too tight or in a wrong direction. Before you go to purchase a slipcover, decide on what type you want based on your preferences or on the style of the room.

People choose to use slipcovers for a variety of different reasons. They are a great way to hide those stained or ripped cushions that are otherwise in great condition. When redecorating, they can be used to inexpensively change the look of the room. Or they can be changed with the calendar in order to give the room a more seasonal look. However, be sure to choose your slipcovers carefully. After all, they will become one of the main focuses of the room once you slip them over the furniture.
