5 Good Reasons For A Home Makeover   no comments

Posted at 4:39 pm in Interior Decorating

Many people feel like they have to justify a redecorating project in their home, either to convince themselves to finally take the plunge or to those around them. Following are some of the best reasons why you might need to embark on a redecoration project in your home.

1. When Moving into a New Home
The number-one reason why people choose to redecorate is that theyve moved into a new home. After all, who wants to live surrounded by someone elses dcor, especially if it doesnt match your taste at all? Simple steps, such as taking down wallpaper or painting the walls a different color, can go a long way in transforming your new home into your own. Then once you get your own furniture and accessories in place, whether its a mission bookcase stuffed with your reading collection in the corner of your home office or an elegant solid oak dining table thats been the centerpiece of countless family dinners, any feelings of your home being a strangers house will be gone.

2. Before You Sell Your House
If you have recently decided to sell your house, now is the perfect time to update that kitchen or bathroom youve always been meaning to remodel. This doesnt necessarily mean taking on a full redecorating and remodeling project, but by updating your home youll be sure to attract more buyers. When you are deciding on projects, remember to only do things to your home that you will see a return on once the home sells.

3. The Kids Have All Moved Out
If your last child has officially moved out, you may now be facing empty-nest syndrome. Theres no better way to avoid those empty-nest blues than by redecorating the home. You can start off with a bathroom or even your family room if youre not quite ready to touch your kids rooms yet. The family room no longer has to center around your kids; you are now free to transform it into the style you want. One of the best advantages to not having children in the home is that you no longer have to worry about valuables getting broken or white couches getting dirty. Without kids in the home, youre now free to go with the style youve always wanted but never thought you could have.

4. You Have Extra Money to Invest
When extra money comes your way, either through an inheritance or perhaps a bonus check at work, it often makes sense to turn around and spend it on your home. This is the perfect chance to invest the money back into your home and redecorate. Plan accordingly, though, so you stay within your budget. You dont want to end up going over and then having a debt to pay.

5. Youve Fallen in Love with an Interior Design
You never know where youll be inspired to redecorate your home. You might have been innocently flipping through interior-design magazines at the grocery store and then absolutely fell in love with a room you saw. Perhaps you were at a fabric store and found a new pattern you just had to have. Whatever item has caught your eye, just go for it! Make yourself happy and create the home of your dreams. You dont need to completely overhaul the room. With little changes, you can slowly incorporate the new style into the room. For instance, you might make drapes out of that fabric you saw and then repaint the walls to complement those drapes.

Sometimes you just have to go for it. Start your redecorating now or else you may never get the courage to do it. But be sure to set a budget and stick to it, as you want your new dcor to be a source of pride and joy, and not get sick every time you see it because you spent so much money on it.

Any rug you choose should be big enough to fit under the table and chairs, even when the chairs are pulled out. Dont get too big a rug, though. Some flooring should show between the area rug and the walls. When measuring for an area rug, measure the length and width of the table and then add another four feet in all directions. If youve been wanting an entirely new style in your dining room, adding an area rug is a great opportunity to go with a new style and then redecorate the entire room off of that rug.

2. Add a centerpiece to your dining room table.
Does your dining room need to be livened up? Try a flower arrangement for instant color. Try decorative candles to bring some light into the room. A glass bowl or vase with fruit will add more of an earthy touch. Dont be afraid to get creative with your centerpieces. Depending on the season or your preferences, centerpieces can be changed quite often.

3. Add some style to the room with a piece of artwork or a set of shelves.
Do you have anything on the walls in your dining room? Either look for one big piece of artwork to be a focal point for the room, or two or three pieces that will tie all the walls together. Another great option is to hang one or two shelves on a wall. Then you can put pictures, candles, or other dcor items there to add some decoration to the room.

4. Set the dining room table for a finished look.
A nice set of china complete with placemats or an elegant tablecloth can really ad a finished look to your dining room. A nicely set table helps the room appear so much more welcoming to guests. Change the place settings according to the different seasons and holidays. These various settings, along with your main setting, will ensure that you never grow tired of what the table looks like.

5. Incorporate some style with a new light fixture.
Lighting can certainly add some style to a dining room. You might go with a chandelier, which always looks great above a dining room table, or some tall standing lamps in the corners. Choose a chandelier that will fit the style of the room. It can be adjusted to the perfect height to give your dining room the right amount of light.

These suggestions are just some of several ways to spruce up your dining room dcor. Just remember to be creative and envision what your ideal dining room would look like. Then get to work and make it happen!
